Maison Chic, A Company with Heart

Maison Chic, a line of baby gift items, is helping to bring relief to children around the world.

While doing the photo shoot for their 2010 catalog, Maison Chic owners and sales manager met a precious little girl named Danielle. Danielle was about 20 months old at the time and she had only been in the United States for about 2 months. She was adopted from an orphanage in China where many children, especially girls, are cared for due to abandonment, usually due to poverty or the desire for a male child. Danielle does not have fingers on her right hand but manages to do everything a child her age would normally do. She has adapted very quickly to her new family and new country and culture.

They were so taken by this brave and fun-loving little girl that they wanted to help other children in orphanages. The Girl Silly Bear (#82918), pictured with Danielle in 2010 catalog, is part of a very popular collection in the Maison Chic line. Maison Chic is donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each of those bears to Holt International which is a non-profit organization that sponsors orphanages, including Danielle's, around the world. These funds will help provide foster care, medical care, and orphanage care for these precious children.

More recently, when the devastating earthquakes hit Haiti, Maison Chic owners Ed & Betty Butler and Wong & Ji Huiling wanted to do what they could to help the children. Maison Chic donated over 100 clothing sets, with a retail value of over $3,200, to the children of Haiti through KIDS (Kids in Distressed Situations). Also, their warehouse, Warehouse Basics in Atlanta, GA, donated their time to pull and pack the clothing sets. "We were so moved by the stories of devastation and the needs of those in Haiti, that we wanted to do what we could by donating clothing for the children of Haiti", said Christy Parham, sales manager of Maison Chic.
